TSL #16.2 VALERIE LESTER

It’s not everyday you get a distinguished author to come tell a very personal story about how she met her husband. And what a story it is! Think 1950s and the glamour of air travel on Pan Am, and the impossibility of tracking each other without phones or the internet! Plenty of material here for a classic Hollywood Love Story! Thank you Valerie for sharing your joy and your love!

You can buy her latest biography of the great Italian printer Giambattista Bodoni: His Life and His World here.

Valerie Browne Lester is an independent scholar, writer, and translator living in the Boston area. She is the author of Fasten Your Seat Belts! History and Heroism in the Pan Am Cabin (1995), which is a history of Pan American told in the voices of its cabin crew; and Phiz, The Man Who Drew Dickens (2004), a biography of Hablot Knight Browne, Dickens’s principal illustrator (who was also her great-great-grandfather). Her biography of the great Italian printer Giambattista Bodoni (1710-1813) Giambattista Bodoni: His Life and His World was published by David Godine in September 2015.

TSL #12.3: VANESSA HO

Vanessa, a self-professed ‘angry’ person is the Project Coordinator of Project X, a local non-profit organisation that works to end violence and discrimination against sex workers in Singapore.  Listen to how she learnt to come to terms with her ‘inner-anger’ and channel it towards helping our most vulnerable in society.

Jotham Tobiah Lim is 25 years old this year and an avid supporter of Christianity, authenticity and love. He is currently a student majoring in Arts Management and in his final year. He is still single but not quite available.

Jotham’s story is a familiar one. But his honesty with his family and himself during his journey of discovery is refreshing. Take a listen to how one young man has decided to live  by his principles in a complicated world.

TSL #11.1: ALISON LESTER

A three time TSL champion, Alison is the author of a new novel, Lillian on Life, which has been praised by the like of Kate Atkinson, Karen Joy Fowler and Erica Jong.  Who says Singapore has no talented foreigners? More importantly, listen to her story ‘Of Ministers and Mormons’, and then you will understand why we’ve titled the accompanying picture as, ‘A Broad with a Few Good Men’.
